Termination of Parental Rights
There is a notice that goes into majority of Dependent and Neglect Petitions that puts you on notice of a potential Termination of Parental Rights proceeding. The notice is this:
The parties served with this Petition are hereby put on notice that a parent's willful failure to visit or support his/her Child or Children for four (4) months preceding the filing of a Termination Petition could constitute abandonment and be used as a ground to terminate a parent's parental rights to the Child/Children.
This is also true for ANYONE. If you go 4 months without supporting your child or 4 months without seeing your child, you could be served with this type of Petition. Be sure to call my office and make an appointment for us to talk about it further.
